The EF 70-200mm lens is a telephoto zoom lens made by Canon. The lens has an EF mount to work with the EOS line of cameras.

The lens comes in five different versions. All have a constant maximum aperture over the whole focal range and all are L-series lenses.

  • EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM
  • EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM
  • EF 70-200mm F2.8L USM
  • EF 70-200mm F4L IS USM
  • EF 70-200mm F4L USM

All five lenses have excellent reputation for providing optical quality comparable to prime lenses at all focal lengths in the zoom range. The F4 version, the cheapest L lens Canon makes, is popular among weight-sensitive landscape photographers and hobbyists who want L quality without spending thousands of dollars, while the F2.8 versions are popular among event and portrait photographers and photo-journalists. The latest version EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM which was announced on January 2010 comes with a complex optical build with 23 elements in 19 groups and no fewer than 5 ultra low dispersion (UD) glass elements and 1 flourite, to minimise chromatic aberration.

  • 10/10 The IS 2.8 is Canon's best lens yet. That aperture at 200mm is outstanding, crisp, sharp and not as heavy or uncomfortable as some might think. Malt
